Campus Crusade for Christ International Dropping Christ

I would like to think I am surprised by things such as this but I no longer am. The Campus Crusade for Christ International is dropping the mention of Christ from it's name because it offends a small number of Christians and a lot of non-Christians. As with hiding a light under a basket, removing Christ as your first and foremost focus, especially for fear of offending those who find Christ offensive, is anti-missionary. The mention of Christ in their name somehow handicaps their "mission", whatever that might be. My take on this is that if Christ handicaps anything you are doing, you need to change what you are doing instead of distancing yourself from Jesus Christ. This move seems to be nothing but a compromise with those who neither know Christ nor love those who do.

Amen! Doesn't it seem strange how so many parts of the Church are crumbling?

Have you notice how many denominations are dropping their name from their church signs? It is all part of the "user friendly" craze that is sweeping the church. Didn't Paul say something about the cross being foolishness?

It is time for revival.

We have already reached the point where you can no longer know what a church teaches and believes by the name on the front and I sure do see a lot of the church falling to pieces just in my relatively short time on this earth. Some of my dispensationalist friends preach a lot on the falling away of the church and the closeness of Christ's return. Just looking at the state of the outward church over the past 50 years, I tend to think they may be a lot more right than wrong.

I can understand dropping "crusade", but the rest is just sad.

Cru? What does that even mean?

I think they are merely sacrificing their ministry to embrace what they think is "cool". "Cru" makes no sense at all. If they can devise a funky handshake to go along with it and print teeshirts they could be the "Cru 4 U" kids.

If wanting to drop "crusade" prompted the change, they sure failed. Do they think the people who would be offended by "crusade" won't see that "Cru" is short for "crusade?" In effect, "crusade" ends up being the only part of the name that they kept. "Campus for Christ" would have worked fine.
